Focus Week on Hike Specific Training and Gear Selection

While all you need to start walking is a pair of good runners, hiking can be a little more involved, especially if you are going into an area you have never hiked before or pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone in terms of distance or terrain.

It is important to start out by choosing the correct equipment and to have awareness of basic bush safety as well as how much nutrition and water you will need to fuel your body for a hike.

There is a tonne of information out there, we will attempt to simplify that information during this week and cover the basics of what you need to get started such as what shoes to wear, what to pack, hiking poles, hydration for hiking, and more.

By the end of this section, you will feel confident to turn up to your first hike knowing you are wearing the appropriate clothing and to navigate a hike safely.
